I have seen a lot of mages go and kill Spores/Willows in Payon when they are job 1.
I have found a neat little trick that will help you get those first few job levels without any effort and a free Wand!
Talk to this beautiful girl called Mana
Ask her to teach you the skills for Mage.
Choose every option from the menu.
Quit, and tell her you want to learn more.
You will need 10 Chrysalis, but she doesnt take it.
Continue with your lessons.
Boom!!Job lvl 6-10 depending on your server rates.
