INTRODUCTION
Welcome, and salutations. This guide is based on the concept of AGI Battle sage. A battle sages use the sage skill hindsight(autocast) to cast and attack at the same time, and also use the sage skill Freecast, to run around annoying people and casting(it has more uses i swear). My guide describes how to make a battle sage use AGI and INT.
Version
1.1 fixed the equipment sectio
1.3 added "why sage?" and variant stat order
WHY SAGE
Many ppl ask this. Many ppl say that alot of sage builds are just a mage that can move. There is partial amount of truth. In the beginning, yes. In the end, no.
But why not just be a wizard? Sages only get good offensive 1 spell. Well The ability to attack and cast and have a chance to autocast results in large amounts of damage from skill use, and normal skill. Sages are a very fun class to watch fight. Autocasting, and casting, it's very unique and entertaining.
Part 1: STATS
(Note from rin: I am redoing the stat order. However, the ending stats are just peachy! to all those ready to flame, don't.)
At lvl 99 your stats should be at least:
STR-50
AGI-90
VIT-1
INT-70
DEX-30
LUK-1
I left a few points for personal alterations.
Part 2: SKILLS
Skills are what make a battle sage so much fun. 1st I will explain a skill build, then I will explain proper usage of sage skills.
Skill build
MAGE SKILLS
1stly, Get firebolt to lvl 5
-not to lvl 4. lvl 5 will help alot, and you'll be getting that later anyway.
Then Fire Ball lvl 5, then sight. Follow this with the maxing of Firewall
-Many people ask, Why get firewall if you'll be battling? It's quite simple, you won't ALWAYS be battling. Some times, it makes more sence to fall back and cast. Plus, at early sage level, you'll be acting as if you are a mage due to weak physical stats.
Next, cold bolt lvl 5, then frost driver maxed
~or~
Lightning bolt lvl 5
-I suggest lighting 1st. They're inter changeable because they're used together so much.
Now, you have basic stats, and your around Jlvl 42. You want to change yes? I say nay! If at all, change at lvl 45 (I did, It's OK if you have that amount of skills). Reason being, more skills=more power. You will always use your mage skills. But, going to lvl 50 is EVEN better.
going to 45:
get 1 more point in each bolt.
going to 50:
2 more points.
(NOTE: may people ask, Why no Naplam beat, or Soul strike. This is because, you will not need they're speed later in the game. Elemental do more damage also)
SAGE SKILLS
1stly, get Study 2, then cast cancel 1
-do not max Study yet, you need the other skills 1st
get free cast lvl 4, max hindsight, then max freecast.
~or~
Max free cast, Max hindsight
-it's purely your choice. I did the 1st one. Each choice has it's ups and downs.
Max study
NOW, we have that settled. The next part involves your choice. Do you like to make annoyingly large buff spells, or annoy wizards by canceling they're magic?
Buff variation(in order from when you get the skill)
Endow tornado 2
Whirlwind 3
Endow tsunami 2
Deluge 3
Endow blaze 2
Volcano 3
Magnetic earth 2~3
You get the wind skills 1st because of it's flee increasing abilities are useful!
or
Get water because, wiz friend+deluge=ouch...
Get fire last
get magnetic earth because it's VERY useful in WoE.
If you wish, scratch a point of ME and get sence, I do not advise this though.
Cancel variation(same as above with skill order)
Magic rod 5
Spell break 5
dispell 5
ALL endows 1
Get the antimagic spells, then get lvl 1 of endows. This is because, endowing is very very very useful. Also, they'res no more antimagic spells.
(note: for a hybrid version, Use the top skill build, and have 9 study and 2 me instead. Then gte Spell break and Magic rod 1)
SKILL USE
1. HINDSIGHT FUNDAMENTALS
Hindsight allows you to attack, and has a random chance to automatically cast a spell at 2/3 sp value. When you cast hindsight, a window will appear. This window, depending on HS level, has spells in it. You choose one, AND ONLY ONE. Many people had the impression it was a random skill casted. You pick a skill that is casted. It always costs 35 SP
LVL-Spell castable/ chance
1- Lv 3 Napalm Beat/ 7
2- Lv1 Elemental Bolts/ 9
3- Lv2 Elemental Bolts/ 11
4- Lv3 Elemental Bolts/ 13
5- Lv. 1 Soul Strike/ 15
6- Lv. 2 Soul Strike/ 17
7- Lv. 3 Soul Strike/ 19
8- Lv. 1 Fireball/ 21
9- Lv. 2 Fireball/ 23
10- Lv. 1 Frost Driver/ 25
2. FREECAST FUNDAMENTALS
freecast is the abilitiy to move around, and cast. also, you can attack while casting, which makes a phen clip useful. In the begining, you'll run around and cast, or adjust youself if casting on another monster while being spawned next to.
LVL- effect
1- 30% Move Rate & 55% Attack Rate
2- 35% Move Rate & 60% Attack Rate
3- 40% Move Rate & 65% Attack Rate
4- 45% Move Rate & 70% Attack Rate
5- 50% Move Rate & 75% Attack Rate
6- 55% Move Rate & 80% Attack Rate
7- 60% Move Rate & 85% Attack Rate
8- 65% Move Rate & 90% Attack Rate
9- 70% Move Rate & 95% Attack Rate
10- 75% Move Rate & 100% Attack Rate
3. USING HINDSIGHT AND FREECAST TOGETHER.
Yes thats right, HS and FC can be used together. How you ask? I shall give you and example to explain-
"You run into a room, with HS casted, with firebolt selected. there is a monster in the room. You cast firebolt on him, then attack while casting firebolt. You hit him around a bit getting a few autocasts, and then you cast the big firebolt, and continue to attack."
It's quite useful to do that. As you cast, you still have a chance to autocast. so a lvl 5 firebolt, can become a lvl 7, or lvl 6... and so on. As you see, HS and FC used together can result in alot of elemental hits.
"The monster continues to attack you and you it. your HS wears off! You cast firewall(or frostdriver if necisarry), fall back and recast it. Then you cast firebolt on him and repeat the steps taken previously"
Badabing, badaboom. The monster is PWNED.
4. PICKING THE HINDSIGHT SPELL(*new*)
Picking a hindsight spell is quite simple. But, depending on your situation, a very necisarry thing to do.
a. the bolts
You will pick the bolts 80% of the time. Reason being, they're quite powerful, and have a chance to hit 3 times. You will pick a bolt depending on what element your fighting. Pick the bolt they're weakest against.
b. Fireball
Fireball is chosen only for 1 reason: mob control. If your going somewhere that you get Mobbed REALLY fast, Pick fireball. Unfourtainatly, sometimes fireball does jack squat to people, so, you won't choose this spell much.
c. Frost driver.
Ah frost driver, A very useful spell indeed. Use this spell in combination with lightning spells and an Wind enchants. Sometimes, it's more effective to just use lightning and wind enchants.
Final Part: Equipment
Equipment for a battle sage is VERY important. At low lvls, it become all to necissary. You need all equipment based off FLEE increasing things. And then ofcourse, they're is the bibles/books.
armor
The best armor for sage is, SILK ROBE. the additions to MDEF is very useful, and you can buy a slotted one very cheap. Although, Silk is good for WoE more or less. Try mink coat possible. But what to slot in it, makes or breaks a good skill (not literally... but you know what I mean)
a theif bug card is the most generic Silk robe ever. For obvious reasons, +1 agi is useful for an AGI sage build.
If by some chance you can afford/find it, An orc lord card is more than useful. 30% physical damage reflected is good for any meleeing class.
If you want, put a ghost ring card in it. I would advise against this HOWEVER. Ghostring card works strictly in PvP, and you won't be using it much. If it works in WoE, please someone tell me, because then ghostring is useful.
Poring card now adds +2 perfect flee. This is useful, so knock yourself out on this one.
Sepheal suggests Steel chonchon, baby desert wolf, Pupa
Always accessories!
with a sage, always use clips. Clips are cheap and good. Cards in the clips, however, must be good, or they're a waste of money.
The best card for a clip ever, is a phen clip. As described above, phen clips are godly to sages. However, +25% cast delay on all spells is rough. I say use phen only when soloing.
Yoyo clips are the 2nd most useful clip. They add to AGI and perfect dodge. If you don't have phen, use 2 of these bad boys.
Generic clips are teleport and hide. Not all that useful later, but very useful in the begining... (cast... EEP... hide).
Vitata cards are useful regardless of class. A heal is a heal is a heal.
Kukre cards are ok, but YOYO clips are so much better.
Marine sphere clip, for magnum break is good for mob control.
Garmet and footgear
Not all that important, but can be if carded right.
For garmet, have a wisper muffler. thats obvious. BUT, don't just have a wisper muffler, have another back up muffler if fighting a ghost property monster, because you take more damage from ghosts with a whisper muff. Have a condor muff as a backup.
For footgear, Get chonchon shoes(=1 agi, +2 flee) or Male theifbug (+2 agi), or Matyr. I suggest theifbug. If need be, get sohee shoes, but they won't be all that necissary so you don't have to. But if anything, get an eggrya card for them.
sheilds... or books?
for sheild, get a memory book. However, Memory books cost a ton! So, until then, carry a guard. If it's slotted add a card for against specific monsters(added). You really don't need anything else, but sheilds are really open to your choice.
hit the books... no hit WITH books.
Finally to the weapons! For weapons you have 3 choices:
3 slotted book(receive with the completion of sage test]
2 slotted bible
1 slotted tablet
I highly suggest bible. 2 slots can make an item powerful. Don't use the book because, it's really weak, and don't use the tablet because less slotts for a slightly stronger weapon is a bad idea
Suggested cards to slot into bibles(thanks a ton seph):
"anacondaq, andre, caramel, flora, goblin, hydra, santa poring, scorpion are the main ones you want.
might want to get: petite, drainliar, kaho, mandragora, marina, strouf, vadon as well.
And a second bible with each one of the first 8 plus a golem as back up incase you break the first ones and don't feel like going back."
Look them up to see what they do and you'll totally understand why.
Also, have a wand weapon handy, for those times when attack is a bad idea.
END
Thanks to everyone in the mage forum for helping me along!
Thanks to fallen angel for making em think more about stats(even though I'm using different ones ^^)
Thanks to seph for being the master of all things magic.
