Brent's Hybrid Super Novice Guide

This is a guide for a hybrid super novice, or so-named “Swiss-Army Knife”, I made this because there are a lack of hybrid builds as opposed to the pure builds. This is more of a PvP build than a PvM guild.

A pure Magic-based SN is not the best idea; a high wizard beats you in terms of magic attack. Make a high wizard, ninja or stalker if you want a magic based character (with the stalker's Plagarize skills and Full Strip, they are more dangerous than high wizard). However, what they lack in firepower, they make up for in speed. They are the fastest spellcasters in the land because they are the only mages to achieve 0 casting time. Take note that their SP is quite low even with max INT.

Pure melee SNs are potentially dangerous. They have Bash/Mammonite as their most powerful move. However, if you have no ranged attack, any ranged attacker can just run around in circles and avoid your move. Plus, only God Strength SNs (STR of 99+) can reach the Mammonite of 4000 disregarding defense, a power only rivaled by the Mastersmith’s/Whitesmith’s Mammonite (due to self-buffs and the Melt-down). Their CRIT can reach 1k as well... making them an armor piercing threat in addition to their SWISS ARMY KNIFE NATURE.

With a Hybrid Super Novice you can fill all these party roles:
FLASH ARMOR - Rouge's double attack and flee, with moderate VIT and a mini-BS’s attack power. (Mammonite Jr.)
MEDIC/SUPPORTER - Battle Support Monk, and you can heal yourself.
CASTER - Ranged Target/Area Mage spells that are powerful enough to kill.
SOLO - you can tank/support yourself
ANTI-STRIP/SWISS-KNIFE- even though you have no weapon, your magic is still the 2nd option. Can penetrate most defenses.

Stats

I am not going to tell you the exact stats; however, I will tell you the recommended range.

Note:
* Sacrifices are absolutely needed to balance both worlds.

????- Up to you.

EDIT and UPDATE: can be 77+ STR and 99 INT... just beware of your defensive stats... according to Xe0n, who seems to be walking around... having a total stat (not base) of 77 will be advantageous as there will be a special bonus at 77. His guide is coming.

Heal Power range:
300+- Wizard-like with 99 int.
400-1000+- Combo monk-like
1100-1700+- Asura monk-like
1800-2000+- Crusader like
2100-2200+- Priest like

SKILLS

I won’t tell you the exact skills either, just the default skills needed.

3 Owl’s Eye (adjust according to your DEX)
10 Improve Dodge (additional dodge)
1 Vulture’s Eye (prerequisite to improve concentration)
10 Improve Concentration (a must have for additional hit and flee. However the cost is high.)

Mammonite- your most defining skill. As long as the damage doesn’t go below 1k, your skill should wipe out your opponent. Zeny prerequisite doesn’t matter as long as you are rich.
Bash- good against AGI characters, adds 5-50 hit depending on level.
Increase AGI- use it if you like to buff yourself.
Ruwach- best anti-hide skill. Use to reveal and damage enemies.
Heal- additional survival points, get it if you like.
Combos:
Stone Curse- basic mage skill. Follow up with Fire Bolt. Next to best because no one would like to lose cranial in PvP/WoE
Fire Bolt- follow up skill to Stone Curse.
Frost Diver- As soon as they freeze, follow up with Lightning Bolt. Quite useless with marc.
Lightning Bolt- follow up skill to Frost Diver.
Thunderstorm- shoot through obstacles.
Mammonite- follow up skill to Stone Curse/Frost Diver.
Fire Wall- protect yourself from melee attackers with this one.
Pneuma- protect yourself from ranged assaults.
Double Attack- fighting without SP. Powerful when combined with sword mastery.
Sword Mastery- powerful when combined with Double Attack. A passive skill.
Safety Wall- protect yourself vs melee assault.
Soul Strike- low casting time.
Enlarge Weight Limit- only for the card and move collectors.
Push Cart- become a BS in terms of additional weight.
Increase HP/SP recovery- get back to the field of battle quickly.
Fire Ball- splash attack. Get Mutant Dragon if you want Fire Ball.
Signum Crusis- Useless.
Divine Protection- prerequisite to Blessing.
Blessing- good buff for hybrids.
Endure- additional MDEF.
Provoke- stop spell casters from casting in WoE.
Magnum Break- get a Marine Sphere because the SP cost is high.
Steal- prerequisite to hide.
Hide- used to hide against AoE in WoE/PvP. Beware of anti-hide skills.

Equipment

The equips for a super novice are inexpensive from 5000z to 1 million zennies. Some are acquired through quests.

Weapons:
Hypnotist’s Staff- used to amplify your magic attack.
+10 Double Bloody Boned/ +10 Triple vs Size Stilleto- switch when using Mammonite or Bash.
+10 Double Bloody Slash (The Paper) Stilleto/+10 Double Critical Boned Slash Main Gauche
+4/+5 Novice Shield of Counter/ of Retaliation Novice Shield- 5% damage back to opponent/20% resistance to all elements except Neutral.
* Reflect damage back to your opponent and perfect for training in non demi-human areas. Poor for damaging the monk back.
+5 Cranial Novice Shield- 30% resistance to PvP and demi-human sources.
* Use in PvP
+5 Enchanted Peach Tree Novice Shield- If you have lvl 10 heal, you may use this to train. As long as you have decent atk speed and hit, your heal should kick off often to heal you mostly.

Super Novice Hat/Poopoo Hat- +1 to stats/10% reduction to PvP
Suitable cards for SN hat:
Incubus headgear and Succubus armor: additional HP
Stalactic Golem Headgear: cheap resist to stun
Wise/Maestro Headgear: More SP

For Shoes:
Antique Firelock- more STR, HP and SP, but more expensive

Eggyra- more SP

* Switch to poopoo hat when facing trans.
The Sign- 5% to all attacks.
* Gives a small boost to all attacks, melee or magical.
Quick/Immune/Mocking- + 10 flee. 20% resistance to neutral. + 20 flee / 10% resist to neutral.
* use quick for cheap sources.
* Immune for PvP and WoE
* Whisper for MvP/PvM.

Antique Firelock Novice Shoes- +5% MAX HP/10% MAX HP/SP
* More useful than others because your hp has doubled and so this is more effective.
4000HP * 15% = 600 HP
* At a level below 99, use a Alarm or Freezer card. They give 300 hp bonus. and autocast lvl 1 sight for Alarm and more power for Bash for the Freezer card.
Other Shoes:
Matyr- 1 agi boost, HP
Verit- Cheaper HP and SP boost
Sohee- more SP

Hard Novice Breastplate- 700 HP
* Use this for more HP.
Succubus Novice Breastplate
* in combo with incubus (1000 more HP)

2nd Accessory
* Up to you.

(except play dead)

New equipment:
With the advent of the Angelic Set, one would like to consider which one is better... the Angelic Set or Novice set....

Angelic Set....
+ More HP
+ More DEF due to assumptio
- Assumptio by chance is unreliable (small chance)
- Overall Less DEF

Novice Set
+ More DEF
- % of Novice Shoes has little effect to Novice HP... (must be combined with Firelock)
- Must keep super novice hat to have more HP.
- Dependence on super novice hat

Angelic Novice Set
Poopoo Hat -10% damage in PvP
Angelic Reincarnation + 20 MDEF
Angelic Sandals +100 HP
Novice Shield -20% to all elemental attacks (why no magic... ToT)
Novice Manteau- 10% to all neutral attacks

+ Balance of DEF and HP, and you still keep the bonus MDEF.
- It is up to you.

Stat building

Start with AGI, then at 40, slowly raise your strength/INT if you like. Then at super novice hood, continue raising your AGI. Then when you are done with AGI, raise your VIT and continue with your STR or INT, depending on what skill you placed first. Afterwards, start with DEX and luck.

Leveling
1-12: Go to Payon Forest and train up on Porings, Pupas and Willows. Spores and Creamies are the most powerful there, so make sure you are ready before pounding.
13-20: Train up with Familiars but not Zombies but if your flee is high enough. Zombies are a good choice.
21-30: Defeat monsters at Payon cave level 1 or start with Payon forest with elders at 25.
31-45: I have trained at Metallings with the strategy “hit and lie down”. Hit the monster, play dead, hit the monster, play dead. Or if you want, go to Payon level 2 with a party.
45-50: Around this stage, you can defeat Metallings, just raise job to level 11 or so.
51-70: GH. Hunter Flies.
71-99: GH/ High Orcs / Clock Tower.

Tips:
1.) Thou shall not balance your offensive and defensive power. 80 STR will never be the same as 80 INT.
2.) Don't try to do everything, you are not Super Swiss Knife One Man Army Overlord Apocalypse et al. LOLZ
3.) Same as Tips on PvP for Battle Sages but with a few corrections.

Quote:
Quoted by Spark Mage to Battle Sages and also given to the Battle Mage SNs.
1. Stay with the group kiddies. You're the weakest one out there on the front lines, you and they know it. You help the beefier units to finish off people when you're not making a run for a mage class.
2. Block magic. If you have Provoke and you notice area spells in WoE, and you don't have an anti magic sage laying down defense on your group already, snap to it. Either Provoke the offender or charge immediately and Mammonite so they can't cast. You save yourself by saving your friends.
3. First thing, avoid your mage comrade! If your friends are engaged with other targets and you see an enemy mage type, don't try killing a mage type SN. They are too fast to tangle with. Let the other classes deal with them.
4. Know your limits and don't compare yourself to a Battle Sage, Mammoniting Blacksmith, Hybrid Ninja, etc. As a SN class, your HP totals suck too hard compared to other mageknight classes (about less than 6k) and your armor is grossly outmoded by all mage classes since they have Energy Coat and new equipment. If you become the target of all attacks, run back and stay behind the knights and crusaders or go and support them.
5. Last but not least, use your spells! If you can get a crusader to Sacrifice for you, you can cast your elemental bolts while attacking without fear of losing the spell. Phen-like power's wonderful isn't it?
6. Don't just stick to +4... continue upgrading. Keep +4 and make backup copies of your overups.

Enjoy! The person makes the character or the character makes the person….whatever! Long live the Super Novices!
