The Life of a Dancer 2 - A FAQ and Guide

Breakdown on the stats
Dex is your damage. Not strength. Dex. Max this and you will be a goddess.

Agi is important as without it you are too slow. All the dex in the world will not help you. That being said you don't need massive amounts like the hunter does. 40-60 range is good. Use your own judgement on this as this is a guide not a lecture.

Vit is life for a dancer. Without it you are lost and my nickname "Dead Dancer". When we turn we get the short end of the stick and only get a 500hp bonus. So Vit is your life. Again range of 50-70 is good. You will get hit, but not badly and you will have the vitality to survive.

Int is your dance. How intellegent you are determines how many dances you can do. It also determines how much you can spam Double Strafe/Arrow Shower. That being said any higher then 30 and Reiz will come after you. 25-30 is good.

Strength, only if you have leftover points.

Luck. Now this one may need a few points in it if you are going with lady luck as your luck affects its dance. I can't see any higher then 10 points so it will mean you will have to sacrifice one high stat point to give the 10 points.

Breakdown on equipment

Well some people say that we need just our whips. They are wrong. We need both as we can still hit hard with the bow. The benefit to us, is that we have the sp regeneration to SPAM. Even at 26 int that I currently have I have nearly 600 sp, and I regen in about 4 mins. And that is without my Eggrya sandles. Whip choice, I use a 3+ Lariat given to me by a wonderful guildie (5+ Dex baby!)

Edit: Okay another guildie lent me a 10+ double bloody/boned rope and this rocks! Only damage to Phendarks, make me cry. Heck I even outdamage my Alchy husband and he's 10 lvls higher!

Bow Choice..Ancient rules, but..my current Clamourous(Goblin carded)Gakk does an awesome job. Since I am still poor, and really haven't seriously outfitted anyone yet, single gakk is good. But the aim is double Clamourous, Double Ancient, Double Insectiside

Edit: Since I have my double bloody/double boned rope I don't use my bow for that, but I did invest in a double beholder, and it rules...can we say DEAD STINGS!

Edit (Jan 2007): A better choice is a Double Underneath/ Double Beholder or Boned. Depends if you like Lvl one or Lvl two. I used a Double beholder/underneath, and with a lex, I am one shotting them at lvl 90.

Armour...Hard tights are good, but until you have them, reg tights will do.
Currently I use a 5+ Hard Mantle that is blessedly able to be shared with all my chars. I also have Unfrozen Coat, and Evil Coat for ventures into Bathory Land

Edit: Now have my hard tights, and love them to death, but I still use my evil coat for bathories. A good choice as well is swordfish armour for those forays into Byalan. Waterball really hurts...

Garment..Angelic is nice till you have enough for muffler then the whisper card. Hoods rule, and are cheap.

Edit: I love my Mocking..Thank you Sanj if you ever read this

Shoes....Verit card in shoes is very very nice, but very very expensive. I find till you are higher lvl Eggrya shoes/sandles are nice for sp regeneration. but once you can afford it get Sohee Boots

Edit: Sohee Shoes are your friend. Really. GET THEM. I dont even use my eggyra sandles anymore and rely totally on the sohee's and they are great.

Edit: I now have my Verit boots and for the most part I do use them exclusively, for arrow crafting, I do still use my sohee's and my Mistress crown.

Accessories..I like Maytr's Leash for the agi that I get from them, but remember I am dirt poor. If I was rich or at least comfortably well off, I would have 2 slotted gloves one with a vitata card for the heal and one with zerom card. If I was partied with my own DuctTapedAco..then I would have 2 slotted gloves with Zeroms. Currently I use my heal clip (*hugs heal clip*) and a glove (Got lucky with it for 25k) On my other chars, I have a necklace (got it for 50K) and the leashes as well as a clever belt.

Edit: (A suggestion is also the Kukre cards..1 to Agi is nothing to sneeze at)

Edit: Nile Rose was very nice, but now its my Nile and a Teleport belt/Heal Clip

Edit (Jan 2007) Now that my char could wear nimbles, I barely even used anything else so when my rogue hits 90, she will be using them, as well has her niles of muscle.

What's a Battle Bard/Dancer?

A battle dancer would be someone that can take the dmg without dying. Not a lot of support for others, but can whack everyone.

Skills for this kind of build would be Slow Grace, Maxed Dance Lessions, Maxed Hip Shaker, Maxed Sling arrow, Maxed Dazzler, Amp and your ensemble would be Down Tempo and Classic Pluck.

Stats would be in the range of High Vit, High Dex, mid agi, no stats in strength, luck or int.

Weapons would be double boned Gakk bow or double ancient/clamourous/insectiside. 10+ Chemeti whip or Rante (1) Or Lariat

What's a FS Bard/Dancer?

A full support dancer is one that uses her bow less and her dances more. Make sure that the person you are with has a decent computer otherwise they are going to kill you (aka, can't dance with the boyfriend his computer sucks!)

Skills for this build is a wide variety so it is best to save what skills you want to do until you can find a partner and both of you go that route. Before choosing your path make sure you have Maxed dance lessons, amp and encore. Then decide. Its better to save the points then waste them down a path that you don't want to go as when you start getting to lvl 25 job it slows down drastically and if you have gone down the wrong path its too late

Stats would be for this girl High Dex, Mid agi, Mid Vit, Mid to High int.

Weapons would be the Gakk bow and your elemental arrows. But your whip is your good choice. Status causing 10+ quad ropes will do lots of fun damage. And with ropes being the cheap choices for a 4 slot get a bunch to 9+ then attempt the 10+

Levelling

For lvls 1-20: Poring, creamys, rockers are great, Poring Island till you can handle the Poporings, Spores

For lvls 20-30: Payon lvl 1/2 are fun Culverts, Wormtails, Horns, snipe wolves or Vagabond if you can Anacondas are lots of fun too, hodes if you can

For lvls 30-45: Orc Dungeon with an aco is fabulous, Poison Spores if you can find a good concentration, Byalan 1/2, Alberta sunken ship 1, Hodes and Sandman with some fire arrows, Desert wolves (mink coats and cards oh my!)

For lvls 45-change job at 40: Greatest Generals, Elder willows, Toy factory 1/2, Hodes, sandman, Desert wolves, Stem worms (bring earth arrows) for the tough scale like stems (you need 41)

After Change to Dancer (oops my bad) or going to job 50: More Sandman, more Toy Factory, Mids 2/3, Sphinx 1/2, Sunken ship 1/2, Byalan 1/2/3, Ho's, Orc Dungeon 1/2, Juno (geographers, but make sure you have a ton of wings on you) Amatsu before dungeon Dungeon is evil, go with someone cause you will get lost in there right quick, but star crumbs drop like crazy in there. Bring silvers and fire and steel arrows.

Edit: After remake I found lvling off of alligators is fun..bring your wind arrows and your whip when you run out of sp

Edit: Mi Gaos are now the hotspot for going to 50 or getting your initial 40 job lvls. Bring your fire arrows

Edit: Now that with the transcendant classes coming out dsing takes an arrow. But fear not. Go to Payon Tool Shop and with 500 of your arrows, get a quiver. Takes far less space so that now you can load up on arrows.

Arrow crafting also does more eg Fire/Crystal/Stone/Wind elements from one orb, makes 150 arrows

For lvls 60-70:
Mids 1-3, Minos, Sphinx 1-4 (just avoid Pharoah he hurts) Geffen 2-3(bring a party with a healer for lvl 3, this is not a good place to solo) Wild roses, Ct Hos(bring a healer till a little higher) West ho's (a healer is good cause when it is not crowded you can get mobbed and your vit is crappy at this time)

Underground Aldebaren 3(keys are about 50-80k) so bring a healer cause once you are down there, you will not want to leave. Bathories (shadow property armour for her card) all over the place and a good chance to get that elusive whisper card. Silver arrows here all the way. Bring some earth ones for the Jokers (steal lvl 1 card..yummy)

Mi Gaos and Louyang and or Niff with a good party and you will be cleaning house. Wild roses are still fairly decent exp for me still so head there if you can

Edit: People say Stings? But people forget that Stings are slow. Hence ds havens. But remember bring a friend aka, a healer. They may be slow, but they hurt..hard

Edit: Now that I am in my 80's Ti surface is fabulous. Heck Kiniro is going to 99 there, so never knock it. Stings, and Bathories are also nice. I can solo Bathories once I get down there, so if you don't have a priest friend, you can go there. Loot is wonderful and getting whisper cards and joker cards and awesome. heal clip and tele clip are an absolute must for down there. Nimble clip or glove as well, for when you are not healing yourself.

Edit:

Lvl 85-99 = Lvling is a pain the ***, we all know this when we get into this higher lvl, so there are a few places where we can still excel. Bathories (my double bloody/boned rope is still awesome there and I bring my Rapture rose for the whispers. I don't even bring a bow. And yes I can take out the swords with just sling arrow), Ti Surface (If you have over 70 agi base! Bring a triple or quad boned and fire/stone quivers) Magma (with a quad flammable and crystal arrows) Lighthalzen For the win. Seriously, the quests itself is a massive storehouse of exp and fun, which is what this game is all about, and the added bonus of BioLabs 1, 2 and 3. Bio Lab 3 parties are now the "in" thing and are some freaking sweet exp, however FINDING one, when they find out you are NOT an MS dancer is next to impossible. So good luck. Bio 2 is your friend, but beware of the MVP. It can kick your ***, and finally Stings lvl 2 (Bring a double underneath/beholder or just a double beholder and a priest, with just your fire arrows) Any one of these places will make you 99
Edit (Jan 2007) Now that Hugel is out... Hugel Labratories with all those Alicez and the Aliots and more WILL make you wanna cry, but the exp is amazing.

MVP strategies

Update..Finally got to participate in a MVP hunt for the Golden Thief Bug and I was using my gypsy kiss for the wizard that was with us. Course he got too close and thought my leg was good for chomping down on, and of course the 7 99's that were there finished him off, but were kind enough to ressurect me, after...so that was my first experience.

Edit: My second was doing PC with my guild and we managed to summon Osirus and his wonderful minions..that was a fun experience cause he kept warping away from us! When we did finally locate him we beat the snot out of him!

Edit: I have Mvped twice since this section of update, one by accident, and one not on purpose. The first time was teleporting from Stormy, and the second was Hatii and I was hit more and hit back more then a wizard and a hunter. I also died 12 times!

WOE strategies

Hip shaker and Slow grace will deeply perturb anyone real quick as will Dazzler. High Dex and High Vit will help. So will a Ghostring card so if you have 120 million lying around slap it on her and have a blast.

As a guild I will shortly be seriously woeing with my dancer so I will keep you all informed as to some good strategies with a battle dancer (which is what my girl is)

Unfrozens, PooPoo Hat, masqurade, Cranial Buckler, Mocking, Gankster Mask and gloves will help you a great deal. Take these one at a time and you will be fine. These are the equips that will help you a lot. If you are like me and the thought of putting a piece of #@*t on my head sends chills down my spine, use a big ribbon it has 10+ to mdef which isn't bad.

Bring about 50 whites, 10 greens, and bwings when your leader tells you to go. Sling arrow is your friend. It allows you to be dancing and attack. I've surprised a number of assassins this way. One bad thing is that if you are the cp Dancer, cancel it when you start getting swarmed and switch to slow grace, then use Sling arrow. Otherwise sling arrow will not work as cp cancels all skills.

Edit: A rapture rose is woe is something completely unexpected, especially if you combine it with some status ailments, like Silence. Then target the PRIESTS!!

Bow vs Instrument/Whip

Why chose when you should be carrying both. Carry only 25 arrows of fire, crystal, silver, stone and steels/Oris and you should be fine. (Edit: now that that the patch has been implimented, get Quivers) When you know you are going to be switching alot (ho's) take off your dances and hotkey your arrows so that you can switch fast. And when you run out of sp, thats what your whip is for.

Bard vs Dancer

We are an ensemble, but as priests and mage/sage/wizzies love gypsy kiss, everyone loves Song of Lutie. We get terrible bonuses versus the bard, but we are eye candy. They are not. We also get more sexual harrassment then even the priestess do..wonder why?

Bard/Dancer vs Hunter

There is no comparison, we support, they kill everything in sight. We are dead dancers, they are still spamming DS and using that damn bird! They can reach 99 faster then even wizzies/sages so I have yet to see a lvl 99 dancer. Would love to be the first though, but I have have a very very long time to go.

Bard/Dancer vs Priest

We can't help but be the secondary support to them and if they are alone, their one and only defence. They are our allies and kindred to us. They buff us, we buff back, they heal us, we support their A@@. Always remember that they are sisters/brothers to us and DON'T PISS THEM OFF! (again me and the foul language..ah well, never said I was a lady)

Minstral and Gypsy

Now that they have been implimented Arrow Vulcan...Yummy!

And Marionette Control....Drooool

But nothing is going to beat Tarot of Fate when implimented Edit: On Tuesday!!!! So much for me being 99 for its implimentation.
