Hybrid Lord Knight Guide: Version 1.3

Hybrid Lord Knight Guide Ver. 1.3

by HolySpiritsFury – PRO Freya Server

NOTE: I quitted playing ragnarok (as of Episode Rachel) in PRO because of the rampant 3rd party programs, cheating, and item duplication in our server. Sadly, the integrity of this great game in my country has been destroyed and is beyond salvaging. Thank you all dear readers!

I. INTRODUCTION

This is a guide focusing on a specific type of knight – the hybrid knight which I will call the Hybrid X type. It is a new generation of hybrid knights designed to maintain its strength and durability amidst the continuous change in Midgard brought about by every new episode/patch, and to dominate both in the player vs. player (pvp) and/or war of emperium (woe) arena.

Knights in Ragnarok are characters blessed with a variety of powerful offensive physical attacks and at the same time possess high hit points (HP) and vitality (coupled with their capacity to carry high defense equipment) to withstand tremendous damage even those coming from an entire enemy party.

During the early years of Ragnarok, a knight with a more or less balance stat of agility (agi) and vitality (vit) is usually considered as a hybrid knight. But I will take a step further by saying that a powerful and flexible hybrid knight should be hybrid in both stats and skills. In short, the Hybrid X Lord Knight has a balanced stat and dual capability in terms of its skill build (ability to use swords and spears).

Why balance your vit and agi than previous builds? The answer is to improve your defense and offense. Ever since the arrival of the Heritage Episode, some new powerful skills were implemented to kill a swordsman class by using his own vitality against himself (soul destroyer (SD) using ice pick, acid bomb (AB), improved occult impaction, etc.). High flee will help you dodge the physical aspect of SD for example, while your reduced vit will enable you to "catch up" healing yourself by potting since AB damage will now be lesser.

High agility has another benefit – high attack speed (aspd). You may be durable but how fast can you dish out damage? And of course, we all know also that spiral pierce cannot be spammed because of its 2 second cast delay, while the frenzy skill needs maximum aspd to be lethal. High aspd helps by enabling you to do skill combos that will give you higher damage output per second rather than spamming a single skill.

You may ask next will I be too brittle with medium vit? In my opinion, no. A knight’s durability does not depend on stats alone but on their defensive skills (parry for example) and equipment switching. Moreover, with high strength (str) and by riding a peco peco, we can carry a lot of pot in many situations (/gg).

Lastly, this is not a beginner’s guide. If you are still new to the game, I suggest reading other guides more comprehensive than this. Again, my objective is to present a hybrid lord knight that can perform well both in pvp and woe in view of the current Ragnarok episode. Hence, constructive comments and criticisms of this guide should be made in that context.

V. DEFENSE & OFFENSE

The Defensive Aspect of the Stat Build:

1) High Flee for the agi variant which is useful in pvm and pvp to dodge high damaging physical attacks such as Sonic Blow, Spiral Pierce, and physical part of Soul Destroyer.

2) Vitality to have high hit points for greater survivability and tanking capability, and at the same time, increased resistance to some status effects. Efficiency of healing potions are also increased significantly.

3) Defensive skills such as Parry will have a high chance (50%) of blocking certain high damaging attacks (such as Asura) that someone with cranial or those under status (freeze, stone curse) will not be able to defend with.

The Offensive Aspect of the Stat Build:

1) The agi variant has high aspd to chain skills effectively (such as bash, BB) and achieve high damage output per second when breaking emperiums even when decreased agi.

2) The agi variant has also the ability to hit-lock enemies especially in woe to immobilize them.

3) Both the agi and vit variant will have a high hit rate together with the skill concentration to hit enemies with high flee. Useful also since spiral pierce has no bonus hit rate.

4) High dex will enable both builds to cast spiral pierce decently as well as other skills with casting time.

5) High dex will also lessened the gap between the minimum and maximum damage that you will be doin to achieve a stable damage output.

C. Dexterity Comparative Analysis

Generally, the above comparative tables show the trade-off between various levels of agility, vitality, & dexterity relative to many factors. This trade-off should always guide you in making your build.

VII. PVP TACTICS & TIPS

General Tips

1) Bash + Spiral Combo
With your high aspd, those characters with equal or less than 50 vit will be very vulnerable to this combo. Bash will deal high damage output per second and it will inflict the stun status (except if wearing orc hero headgear) preventing them from doing anything including using pots. Don’t forget to use your lvl 10 provoke first to soften the target. Use spiral pierce as a finishing move.

2)Bash + BB or Frenzy
Another combo against agility type characters. Only this time, BB is used as a finishing move by chaining it when the enemy get stunned or by activating Frenzy. Frenzy has a movement speed bonus to chase fleeing enemies.

3)Brandish/Magnum Break + Spiral Combo
My favorite combo against Champions and those characters being protected by pneuma. Brandish Spear is a melee type attack with a push back effect. Use brandish first to push them out of pneuma and then cast spiral pierce. Magnum Break can also be used since this will usually give them position bugs.

4)Tanking Lex + Spiral or Status + Elem Converter + Spiral Combo
Some players just carry lots of pots especially in pvp rooms. I use this tactic to one-shot kill those characters with low HP modifier or those without cranial and poopo hat. What you do is equipped an owl baron clip (% chance to cast lex aeterna) then hit your enemy with normal attacks and wait for lex aeterna to be casted while your tanking his damage. Once lex aeterna activates, use spiral pierce as a finishing move. Another option is to inflict status such as freeze then use wind converter so that your spiral pierce will have a higher damage.

5) Status - sometimes status effects can determine the outcome of a battle so be sure to familiarize yourself with the different status and how to counter them by reading this site - RagnaWiki Status Effects Article

6) Mercenary System - In Episode 11.3 Nameless Island, you can summon a mercenary via a scroll to fight for you including in pvp and woe. There are three (3) kinds of mercenaries - the Swordsman, Archer, & Lancer which will definitely have a future effect in the way pvp and woe are played.

VIII. WOE TACTICS & TIPS

Attacking Mode

1) Shock troops & emp breakers - your primary role in capturing a castle is to break its defense first then finally destroy the emperium (emp). No other class in Ragnarok can do this with effectiveness and style other than the Knight class.

2) Emp Rush! - my suggestion when entering the emp room is to switch to 1hand spear/sword mode first so that you can wear your cranial under the precast then switch to 2hand sword+parry only when near the emp. Use speed potion to cover as much ground as possible. If you have a combat knife and an unfrozen typhoon armor, then you can further reduced damage by -10% and 50% (against storm gust) respectively.

3) Decoy & breaking defense - to give your guildmaster a chance for an emergency call and/or to inflitrate the emp room in stealth, LKs can act as decoys by drawing the attention of enemies and tanking their damage. In the process, you can inflict status to weaken the portal defense, use sword/mail breaker with magnum break, or brandish/BB the wizard formation (my 2nd favorite target aside from the emp, /gg).

4) Be smart when using Frenzy - dont be stupid and activate Frenzy the moment you see the emp. Observe the situation around the emp first and look for an opportunity. Frenzy is generally used also when you are about to die.

5) Preferred weapons in breaking the emperium (no additional buffs):

2damned 2gigantic katana - 6415 damage per second (with 2hand quicken, berserk potion, cursed water, aura blade, spear dynamo, & frenzy)

2damned gigantic saber + cranial - 6055 damage per second (with 1hand quicken, berserk potion, cursed water, aura blade, spear dynamo, & frenzy)

ice pick + cranial - 4523 damage per second (with berserk potion, cursed water, aura blade, spear dynamo, & frenzy)

6)High damage per second - remember, the key in capturing a castle is to make the last hit on the emperium and you can achieve that by having a higher damage output per second than your enemies.

7)One of my favorite armor during emperium breaking is the evil druid armor because aside from protecting you against freeze, stone curse, and provoke, the enemy priest will not be able to aspersio you because you are undead property.

Defending Mode

1)The Hunt Mode Doctrine
According to this doctrine that I learned from my guild master of the Dominion Guild, your primary role aside from defending the portal is to hunt vital targets such as High Wizards, Clowns, Gypsies, Scholars, etc. and eliminate them quickly as possible especially during a dangerous invasion via emergency call of one (1) or more enemy guilds. Don’t waste your time killing fellow Lord Knights or Paladin since it will only drain your SP and waste precious time. Leave them to your nukers.

2) Inflict status and cancel spells - Use status pikes (ex. 2stun2cursing pike) against mob of enemies and use provoke to cancel spell casting.

3) My LK in hunt mode screenshot - We successfully defended the emp against this invasion.
